It was a real honour to host Colin, who was a work colleague at HMP Leeds back in the mid 90’s. Even back then as a young Governor he had an appetite for change, and set about introducing a prison regime which we would be proud of today.( those of us who agree with rehabilitation that is ) Since then Colin has been CEO of the Irish Prison Service and now back in his homeland he is CEO of the Scottish Prison Service, where he leads with great pride what appears to be a very progressive service, based around very similar principles to Tempus Novo. Certainly the vision that Colin and his executive board have set out is aligned with ours, in that people deserve the opportunity to change and one way to facilitate that is through kindness. We look forward to going up to Scotland and learning from his entrepreneurial approach to prisons and prisoners, or as Colin says “Citizens”. It is this approach which has contributed to a declining prison population in Scotland, something he should be extremely proud of.
