Calling on the Government for £1m To Tackle Prison Overcrowding

As our 10th anniversary approaches, we reflect on a decade of transformative work, breaking barriers, and creating opportunities for those seeking a second chance. Today, we come to you with a heartfelt plea to the Government and an ambitious vision for the future.

At Tempus Novo, our mission is clear: to break the cycle of crime by providing sustainable employment opportunities for ex-offenders. Our success speaks for itself, with a remarkable 95% success rate in placing individuals in long-term jobs. Now, we are reaching out to the Government for critical funding that could propel our impact to new heights.

Imagine the potential: £1 million in funding could support 22 new dedicated Tempus Novo case workers, each assisting 50 ex-offenders on their journey to employment. This investment not only transforms lives but also holds the promise of saving the UK tax payer a staggering £25.63 million, as we divert individuals from the costly path of imprisonment.

To date, we have placed nearly 1,000 ex-offenders into sustainable jobs, all without Government funding. Our unique approach costs just £3,500 per person, a fraction of the £46,600 it takes to keep someone in prison for a year. The key to our success lies not only in providing employment opportunities but in our comprehensive 12-month support structure, ensuring both the ex-offender and the employer stay on the path to success.

Tempus Novo's impact extends far beyond individual lives. We have forged partnerships with major employers, including John Lewis, Finsbury Food Group, GXO, and Maersk, creating a network committed to giving second chances. Our esteemed ambassadors, including Andy McNab and Sir Lenny Henry, stand as testament to the credibility and importance of our cause.

With a combined 60 years of experience and direct links into the British prison system, Steve and Val founded Tempus Novo with a mission to make a real difference. The number of individuals we have helped already equals the capacity of one of the most overcrowded prisons in the country – Armley prison.

We are calling for major funding to expand our reach and change more lives, helping to alleviate prison overcrowding and contributing to economic growth while saving millions for the taxpayer.

Our plea is rooted in both compassion and practicality. The potential savings extend beyond the estimated £25.63 million, offering an opportunity to reinvest in key services that benefit us all. The impact of our work not only transforms the lives of our candidates but also ripples through their families and communities, breaking the cycle of criminality at its roots.
